Here is a website which you might find useful when supporting your child with phonics, reading and writing:  http://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/parents/  This is the Ruth Miskin (creator of Read Write Inc) website where you can find helpful videos to demonstrate how phonics is taught and ideas for you to try at home.

Letter Formation

In Read Write Inc, the letters all have a rhyme that teaches the children how to write each letter. It is important that children learn to write letters with the correct formation before learning to join in Year 1.

All the letters and rhymes are in the document below. The red star indicates where each letter starts.

Fred's Fabulous Ph-o-n-i-c-s Award!

Each week Fred's Fabulous Ph-o-n-i-c-s Award is presented to three children: one child from Reception, one from Year 1 and one from Year 2.

Spelling

There is an emphasis on the importance of spelling in the National Curriculum.  On this page you can find advice about strategies for learning spellings, the National Curriculum spelling word lists for Years 3&4 and 5&6 and, at the bottom of the page, links to National Curriculum expectations for all year groups.
