Spring 1 2020
The children have been finding out why Christians perform nativity plays at Christmas.. We have read different versions of the story and thought about the people involved. The children then ordered them from most important to least important, this was a tricky job! Afterwards the children created their own nativity scenes with playdough so they could think carefully about the people in the story.
Peace at Last
At LEH we are now using Talk 4 Writing to inspire and teach English. We have been learning the story Peace at Last. The children use actions and the story map to retell it. During celebrating work we retold the story to the whole school and some parents and carers. They were fabulous!
We have been learning about our bodies and the children have been really interested in how we grow. So we invited Katie's mum and Katie's baby brother Toby in. Katie's mum told us all the things Toby can do and what he can't do...yet!. The children had all prepared questions and got to ask them too.
We have been learning about how Christians welcome children into the church. We found out about baptisms and the symbols and objects are used. The children used their knowledge to act out their own baptism and all took on different roles.
On Wednesday 9 October there will be an evening for parents and carers about how to support the early stages of reading and writing.
Here are some websites that have more resources and suggestions on how to support your child. .
This week we celebrated Harvest by bringing donations of food for the local food bank. Class 1 were given the job to carry all our offerings up to All Saints Church. The all carried a few things each and, just about, managed to carry them all the way!
Where do we belong?
In RE this half term we have been finding out how different faiths celebrate and welcome new life into their faith. We have also thought about where we belong and the different communities and families we all have.
This week we found out about the Hindu festival 'Raksha Bandhan'. A festival that celebrates brothers and sisters. They give each other gifts of homemade bracelets, so we made our own bracelets and gave them to our friends.
