Summer 1 2019
Spring 2 2019
We have recently opened our newly made Mud Kitchen area. The children have loved exploring all the tools, digging and water areas. They have been learning to put the waterproof suits and wellies on all by themselves. Today, some children made chocolate soup and passed it round so everyone had some!
Today the children took part in a STEM challenge. They worked in groups and have mini marshmallows and spaghetti. They had to try and create a strong structure that didn't fall down. Lots of perseverance and different approaches were needed and the children worked really hard to learn from their mistakes.
The children have been learning about weather and all the different types of weather and seasons of the year. Today we made our own weather sticks. The children collected their own sticks and learnt how to stick ribbon on to it. We then took the weather sticks outside so we could use them to see the wind.

Heroes and Villains
As part of our DT project the children have designed and made their own Superhero Capes. The children made them personal to suit the powers of their superhero. The best part was when they all got to try on their capes and we pretended to be superheros outside.
The Year 1 children used the properties of 3D shapes that they knew to sort them in different ways. We had great fun with all the discussions.
The children used their computing skills to create pictures of poppies. They have been finding out about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies to remember.
Autumn 2 2018
This half term the theme is Remember, Remember. We will be learning about WW1 by finding out about all the animals that helped soldiers on the front line. We will be using the book 'Flo of the Somme' to help us.
We have been busy learning about the story of Jesus' birth. Some children created Baby Jesus Mince Pies and made their own baby Jesus to go on the top as mince pies were originally an oval to represent the the manager baby Jesus was put in. Then the Year 1 children used playdough to create their own representation of the nativity scene.
Reception children have been learning about the number 8 and today they used Numicon to find different ways to make 8.
Have a look at how Class 1 looks at the start of the year. This summer we have had a new covered area in our outdoor area and can't wait to start using it, especially when the rain starts to fall!
This year we are using the online learning journal 'Tapestry' to record and present the Reception children's learning. Below are some useful guides to help you set up and use your tapestry accounts.
