SEND

(Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)

At Lady Hastings Thorp Arch, we are committed to ensuring that all children get the support they need to learn, play and have fun together.  For some children with special educational needs or disabilities, this might mean some extra help or resources are needed.

Our SEND policy aims to ensure that individual children’s needs are quickly identified and steps are taken to meet them, in line with the SEND code of practice.  Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Jennifer Preston and she ensures children get the support they need.

Children experiencing learning difficulties are generally supported by the class teacher (and teaching assistants) who differentiates the tasks to the ability of the child. Children receive additional help through group or individual intervention work activities to support their development.  For some of our children with SEND, we also use the expertise of the following services:

  • SENIT (Local Authority Special Educational Needs Inclusion Team)
  • Cluster Educational Psychologist
  • Cluster Emotional Wellbeing Counselling
  • Citywide Educational Psychologist
  • Area Inclusion Partnership
  • NHS Speech and Language Therapy
  • NHS Occupational Therapy
  • STARS (Specialist Training in Autism and Raising Standards)
  • Child Protection Advisors
  • Educational Psychologist
  • Leeds Mindmate Single Point of Access (emotional wellbeing or mental health)
  • CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service)
  • Complex Needs Team
  • Social Services
  • School Nurse
  • Medical Professionals
  • Health Visitor
  • Visual Impairment Team
  • Hearing Impairment Team
